Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery Institute at Centerpoint
Centerpoint now offers minimally invasive surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System, a robotic surgical system. Surgeons control the da Vinci system to perform laparoscopic surgeries (operations performed with telescopes and instruments placed through tiny incisions, rather than traditional “open” surgery), with instruments less than one-third in diameter. This innovation results in many potential patient benefits, including less risk of infection, blood loss, significantly less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
Using the da Vinci System, the surgeon operates while seated at a console next to the operating table, viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. The surgeon uses master controls located below the display to perform the procedure. The system translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of the surgical instruments inside the patient.
Surgeons utilize the da Vinci System for urological, gynecological and cardiac procedures.
